Figuring out how to mail something...the Postal system MUST die!

Growing up, I have seen mom do assorted transactions at the Post Office. From buying stamps, to mailing packages, you can do lots with sending items. Now, I live on my own, and the need to mail something came up. What do I do? I have no need for a book of stamps, all my billing is online, I don't even carry cash of checks...sooo what do I do? While walking through Target some time ago, I noticed they now sell  greeting cards with pre-paid postage. Thinking back to that, I run by Walmart after work, this would be about 2-3AM. I browse high and low looking for a card that had postage included...nothing. Next day, wake up early to go to Target to look for one...nothing. Time was running out, and I needed to get this done, so I bit the bullet and figured I needed to venture out to the Post Office.

Scene: Grey building, dark trees. Broken Pavement. Drug deals in the back corner. a very dilapidated structure that would be dreary even for a jail.

If I was writing a play, that would be the description for the outside. This location is out of my way for work, so I leave early. I pull off, park and think about if this place is even open. Walking inside I see the oddest bunch of characters, from the business man, to the homeless cat lady...not a friendly place. Looks very much like a public school or jail interior. Now I'm walking up to this machine called the APC, or the Automated Postal Center...kind of a cool device. It asks me lots of questions...some I don't think are relevant to the purchase. Does your envelope bend? Does your little parcel contain liquids, explosives, contraband, breakables or the like? First off, I just put the thing of the scale, it knows exactly how much it weighs. Second, if I could put all that stuff into that size and weight, I'd be a pretty damn good bomb maker! Eventually the thing talks me into buying three stamps because you apparently can't have a purchase under a dollar. I stamp the item, and drop it in the outgoing box. 3 days of effort to mail one item, a bit extreme don't you think? Now I have two extra stamps I will probably never use, and a will to never go back into that building again.

I am thinking a complete re-haul, or decommissioning of the Postal System is in order. The concept of sending paper items from door to door is old-fashioned and the practice needs to stop. For God's sake, if you keep the system up, make it easier to send a letter! Stamps?  Give everyone a number or a barcode, and as it is processed a amount is deducted from my credit card...something that I can print or control from home, on demand, without going to a special building.

Not sure even I know what should happen, but I will say, it was not an enjoyable experience. The government and the people need to embrace technology and turn from old trends.

Random Creepy Video

When a audio guy is bored, this stuff happens.

I Cheated On Her...With Another Train!

Tonight at work, I walked over to a coworker and said, "I'm sorry, but I have to confess something. I've cheated on someone. I had an affair with Teal behind Coral's back". Yes, this is a monorail post. After that we had a short humours conversation just building on that a bit, "shhh not so loud, Yellow gossips!", as that train pulled in.

Yes the trains are not all the same, we have 12 trains in our fleet and all drive with their own personalities. Due to the three beams, and all trains can drive out of both cabs, wear and tear are all different along with the maintenance performed at what point with certain repairs. So what is my favorite train order?

  1. Teal
  2. Coral
  3. Green
  4. Black (C6)
  5. Yellow (C1)
  6. Lime
  7. Orange
  8. Blue (C6)
  9. Peach
  10. Gold
  11. Red
  12. Silver

What is all so wrong with Silver? All I can say is you need to drive it to find out.

On Facebook Rules

Throughout the use of Facebook, I have noticed my methods of use have been refined down and certain rules set. My thoughts are that it is no longer a play platform, but a tool to communicate, and like any tool, rules should be set.

For example, I no longer play games (or 'apps') on it anymore, in fact I am in the process of slowly blocking all the apps that I have used throughout the years. Updates do not come as frequent as they used to, maybe twice a day now at the absolute most unless something is going on.

Facebook messenger, I should be famous for ignoring people! I will generally always reply if I am by my computer EXCEPT for at night after work. After work, it is my eat, relax & sleep time! The exception to the after work rule is...well... if you are a female for starters. Typical guy answer I know, but somewhat true. Text messaging is around for a reason, use it! Many days I wake up to find multiple chat windows open, I will reply in the morning, but you have to be online (green dot by your name).

The Facebook platform is very versatile and is a safe bet to jump to other platforms such as, Foursquare, Twitter & Hulu. Quick and easy to share more information. I do not want to bore by talking more about this.

I could go on to get into the nit-picky stuff but the idea has been explained, use of social media should be self-regulated hours and ruls wise, it makes everything seem much more manageable and gives you more of a real life.

On Leaked Card Numbers

I am big on Internet commerce, it is the wave of the future and I believe that is how our market will be shaped. However, yesterday my card number was hacked and I had to cancel it. So What did I do? I posted it on Facebook in this post...

"And today I retire a great Check Card number, and pickup a new card. You have served me well 4828 5470 5716 2011... those last 4 years have been great. Now go die along with the creep who stole you from me! Maybe next time you will think twice before cheating on me! lol"

Yes, that is (or was) the actual number on the card, disabled and useless now, but plastered over the Internet now. How do these things get out? I really am not sure. Internet safety is one of my number one things to look for when entering my card number into a form. I do have a hutch on which site is the culprit, but I'll keep it to myself for now. It is frustrating, and now I have to update billing information on a ton of things. Tis is life on the Internet, you understand, right?

And that concludes another random rambling!

Things don't bother me...

Through life, things and people will disappoint. People will show a cold shoulder to people and try to make it "awkward" with others. Sometimes people can't even go to work because a boss said something that was just way out there.

I have noticed in the past couple years, a lot does not bother me. From girls to problems at work, or school tests to apartment hunting, life should really not throw a brick through your window of life.

If someone says to me, "I don't want to make it awkward between the two of us", they are already implying SOMETHING. But why does it have to be that way. Why can't you just see someone and hang out like usual? if you already made up, what is the big deal? That has been a big pet peavy of myself, I'm a cool guy, if you have something against me, we settle it and move on. What if the whole world was like that? Would we resolve all conflicts?

I don't have answers or a theory, just this rant. What would it take to cut out all the "awkwardness"from the world and just live our lives? Seems like we could be better off....
